The Southern Regional Railroads include a small but interesting group, The Gulf Mobile and Northern and the Mobile and Ohio merging, in 1946, to become the Gulf Mobile and Ohio later to merge with IC and finally to become a part of Canadian National. The Louisiana and Arkansas became a part of the expanding KCS Industries. An interesting bridge line the Columbus and Greenville linked the L&A, at the Mississippi River to more easterly connections. The Tennessee Centrals struggle to link Knoxville and Memphis together in the face of stiff opposition from the L&N and Southern makes interesting railroad history.
